John Hultgren is a member of the International Freelance Photographers Organization (IFPO) and a recognized member of Nikon Professional Services (NPS), an organization of professional full-time photographers.
John's photographs have won awards and have been printed in newspapers, magazines, and books. We use professional-grade Nikon Z mirrorless cameras with medium-format like resolutions; high-performance Nikon S series lenses; Cokon optical filters; and Apple computers with Adobe graphic software and Spyder calibration. Photographs are authentic and professionally color managed and printed on Chromogenic papers using traditional chemicals. SmugMug hosts our photo galleries and print orders are processed through White House Custom Colour in Eagan, Minnesota, a professional photography laboratory. John is a fine art and conservation photographer, author, and educator from Louisville, Kentucky, who was a 2024 and 2025 Team Kentucky Artist and who uses photography to advocate for conservation outcomes, protect nature and improve the natural environment. As an independent artist he sells photographic art prints at regional juried art shows and through stock photography agencies. His journalism photographs comply with the Associated Press Code of Ethics for Photojournalists.
John is the author of "Introduction to Digital Landscape Photography" and "The Photographer's Guide to the Great Smoky Mountains." As an educator John taught Paramedic and emergency medicine classes before retirement and now teaches photography at a local university and public library. John is the past president of the Kentuckiana Photography Club and is an active member of the Louisville Photographic Society. A photojournalism major in college, he is a retired critical care trauma center helicopter paramedic who worked in public safety for 52 years, including 44 years as a paramedic, 20 years in Helicopter Emergency Medical Services, and 16 years in the fire service.
