Kentucky's Remaining Covered Bridges Two-Day Tour

Kentucky's 12 remaining covered bridges can be visited in a pleasant two-day tour.

Day One:

Begin your trip in either Georgetown, Kentucky (along Interstate 75 north of Lexington) or Cincinnati, Ohio.

• From downtown Georgetown, travel US 62 east (or you can join this route from Interstate 75 exit # 126 2 miles east of Georgetown) approximately 34 miles to SR 19. [Georgetown is approximately 1:12 (70 miles) from Louisville, and 0:24 (17 miles) from Lexington.] Travel north (turn left) on SR 19 approximately 15 miles to SR 1159 (Miami Street) in Brooksville. Travel north (turn left) on SR 1159 approximately 4 miles to SR 9 (AA Highway).
• From Cincinnati , travel to the Interstate 471 / Interstate 275 junction (exit #1 on I-471, exit # 74 on I-275) and exit on to US 27 south. Travel US 27 south approximately 3 miles to SR 9 (AA Highway). Travel south (left turn) on SR 9 (AA Highway) approximately 28 miles to SR 1159.
  Walcott Covered Bridge on Ky 1159 near Bladeston, Bracken County
• East side (right side) of SR 1159 over Locust Creek. Locust Creek is approximately 0.03 miles north of SR 9 (AA Highway).
• Travel time from Georgetown: approximately 1:28 (58 miles)
  Travel time from Cincinnati: approximately 0:54 (39 miles).
• Location: N38° 44.010' W84° 05.970'
• From the Walcott Covered Bridge, continue south on Augusta Berlin Road approximately 0.15 miles to the AA Highway (SR 9) and turn left. Travel east on the AA Highway approximately 3.89 miles to SR 19 (Augusta Chatham Road) and turn left. Travel north on SR 19 approximately 3.14 miles to SR 8. Travel east (turn right) on SR 8 approximately 6.94 miles to SR 3313 (Lee Creek Road). Travel south (turn right) on SR 3313 (Lee Creek Road).
  Dover Covered Bridge on Lee Creek Road, near Dover, Mason County.
• On Lee Creek Road (SR 3313) over Lee Creek, approximately 0.1 miles south of SR 8. (Lee Creek Road is approximately 0.5 miles east of SR 1235 (Old Dover Road).
• Travel time from previous bridge: approximately 0:25 (14 miles).
• Location: N38° 45.037' W83° 52.712'
• From the Dover Creek Covered Bridge, return to SR 8 and continue east (turn right) approximately 11 miles to SR 10. Continue east on SR 10 approximately 6 miles to Spring Creek Road (this road is currently marked at Springdale Road). Travel east (turn left) on Spring Creek Road (which turns into SR 984 at the county line) to Cabin Creek Road. Turn right on Cabin Creek Road and go to the stop sign (the bridge will be on your right).
  Cabin Creek Covered Bridge on Cabin Creek Road near Cottageville, Lewis County
• Southwest side of the intersection of SR 984 and Cabin Creek Road (which is approximately 0.25 miles east of the Mason County / Lewis County line).
• Travel time from previous bridge: approximately 0:36 (21 miles).
• Location: N38° 36.598' W83° 37.248'
• From the Cabin Creek Covered Bridge, return 4 miles to SR 10. Travel east (turn left) on SR 10 (which eventually merges into AA Highway) approximately 48 miles to SR 7. Travel north (turn left) on SR 7.
  Bennett's Mill Covered Bridge on Route 7 near Argentum, Greenup County.
• East side of SR 7 approximately 0.9 miles north of SR 10 (AA Highway).
• Travel time from previous bridge: approximately 1:17 (53 miles).
• Location: N38° 37.853' W82° 55.606'
• From the Bennett's Mill Covered Bridge, return to SR 10 (AA Highway) and travel east (turn left) approximately 4 miles to US 23. Travel south (turn right) on US 23 approximately 6 miles to SR 1. Travel south (bear right) on SR 1 approximately 14 miles to SR 3111. Travel east (turn left) on SR 3111.
  Oldtown Covered Bridge on Route 1 near Oldtown, Greenup County
• North side of SR 3111 (Frazier Road) approximately 0.2 miles east of SR 1.(SR 3111 is approximately 1.6 miles north of the SR 1 and SR 784 intersection).
• Travel time from previous bridge: approximately 0:35 (25 miles).
• Location: N38° 25.904' W82° 53.678'

For the night, you can:

• Return north to Greenbo Lake State Resort Park (10 miles away). Return to SR 1 and travel north (turn right) approximately 7 miles to SR 1711. Travel west (turn left) on SR 1711 for approximately 3 miles to the Greenbo Lake State Resort Park.
• Travel to Ashland (35 miles away). Return to SR 1 and travel south (turn left) approximately 8 miles to Interstate 64. Travel I-64 east approximately 19 miles to US 60 (exit # 181). Travel US 60 north into Ashland.

Day Two:

Begin your day at Interstate 64 exit # 172 near Grayson.

• From Greenbo Lake State Resort Park travel east on SR 1711 approximately 3 miles to SR 1. Travel south (turn right) on SR 1 approximately 14 miles to Interstate 64.
  From Ashland, travel south on US 60 to Interstate 64. Travel west on I-64 approximately 19 miles.
• From I-64 near Grayson, continue west on I-64 approximately 39 miles to SR 801 (exit # 133). Travel north on SR 801 approximately 3.6 miles to SR 158. Travel west (turn left) on SR 158 approximately 7 miles to SR 111. Travel south (turn left) on SR 111 approximately 3 miles to Ringo Mills-Grange City Road.
  Hillsboro Covered Bridge on Route 111 near Grange City, Fleming County
• West side of SR 111 at the intersection of SR 111 and Ringo Mills - Grange City Road Intersection (Ringo Mills - Grange City Road is approximately 2.8 miles south of Hillsboro).
• Travel time from Greenbo Lake State Resort Park: approximately 1:26 (70 miles).
  Travel time from downtown Ashland: approximately 1:31 (76 miles).
• Approximate location: N38° 15.3' W83° 39.2'
• From the Hillsboro Covered Bridge, travel north on SR 111 approximately 2.9 miles to SR 158. Travel south (turn right) on SR 158 for approximately 3.5 miles to Rawlings Road.
  Ringos Mill Covered Bridge on Route 158 near Ringos Mills, Fleming County
• North side of SR 158 and Rawlings Road intersection over Fox Creek (Rawlings Road is approximately 0.2 miles north of Ringos Mill).
• Travel time from previous bridge: approximately 0:07 (3 miles).
• Approximate location: N38° 16.1' W83° 36.6'
• From the Ringos Mill Covered Bridge, travel north on SR 158 approximately 3.6 miles to SR 111. Travel north (turn right) on SR 111 approximately 5 miles to SR 156. Travel east (turn right) on SR 156 approximately 3 miles to SR 32. Travel east (turn right) on SR 32 approximately 1.5 miles to SR 3110.
  Goddard Covered Bridge on Route 32 at Goddard, Fleming County
• On SR 3110 approximately 0.25 miles east of SR 32, over Sand Lick Creek. SR 3110 runs east of SR 32 approximately 1.4 miles south of SR 156.
• Travel time from previous bridge: approximately 0:21 (13.4 miles).
• Approximate location: N38° 21.598' W83° 36.778'
• From the Goddard Covered Bridge, travel west on SR 32 (use the bypass around Flemingsburg) approximately 14 miles to SR 165. Travel north (turn right) on SR 165 approximately 6 miles to US 68 (SR 165). Continue west (turn left) on US 68 / SR 165 until SR 165 branches off from US 68, approximately 4 miles. Continue north (turn right) on SR 165 approximately 2 miles to SR 1029. Travel north (turn right) on SR 1029 approximately 2 miles to Swart Road.
  Johnson Creek Covered Bridge on Route 1029 near Burika, Robertson County.
• On east side of SR 1029 just south of Swart Road, over Johnson Creek.
• Travel time from previous bridge: approximately 0:43 (28.2 miles).
• Location: N38° 28.938' W83° 58.705'
• From the Johnson Creek Covered Bridge, return south on SR 1029 approximately 2 miles to SR 165. Travel south (turn left) on SR 165 approximately 2 miles to US 68. Travel west on US 68 (turn right) approximately 9.4 miles to SR 32. Travel west (turn right) on SR 32 approximately 11 miles to SR 1940 (Ruddels Mill Road). Travel south (turn left) on SR 1940 approximately 5.2 miles to SR 1893. Travel north (turn left) on SR 1893 approximately 2.2 miles to SR 3318 (Colville Road). Travel north (turn left) on SR 3318 approximately 1.2 miles.
  Colville Covered Bridge on Route 3118 near Millersburg, Bourbon County
• On SR 3118 (road is closed at the bridge). You can park at the road barricade and walk a short distance along the close road to the bridge.
• Travel time from previous bridge: approximately 0:59 (33.5 miles).
• Location: N38° 19.476' W84° 12.194'
• From the Colville Covered Bridge, return to SR 1940 and travel south (turn left) approximately 6 miles to US 68. Travel west (turn right) on US 68 and immediately turn right onto the US 68 bypass. Travel the US 68 bypass approximately 3 miles to US 460 (Georgetown Road). Travel west (turn right) on US 460 approximately 27 miles to SR 1262 (Woodlake Road). Travel north (turn right) on SR 1262 approximately 3.5 miles to North Elkhorn Creek.
  Switzer Covered Bridge alongside Route 1262 at Switzer, Franklin County.
• Approximately 0.1 miles east of SR 1689 (Switzer Road) on SR 1262. The bridge is on the north side of SR 1262 over North Elkhorn Creek.
• Travel time from previous bridge: approximately 1:08 (41.8 miles).
• Location: N38° 15.270' W84° 45.121'
• From the Switzer Covered Bridge, return to US 460 and travel west approximately 4.8 miles to US 60 / US 421. Travel south (turn left) on US 60 for approximately 2.6 miles to Interstate 64. Travel west on I-64 for approximately 4.8 miles to US 127 (exit # 53). Travel south on US 127 (take the US 127 bypass on this section) approximately 10 miles to US 62. Travel west (turn right) on US 62 approximately 22 miles to SR 458 (Old Tunnel Mill Road). Travel south (turn left) on SR 458 approximately 6 miles.
  Beech Fork Covered Bridge on Route 458 near Mooresville, Washington County.
• West side of SR 458 approximately 2.5 north of SR 55.
• Travel time from previous bridge: approximately 1:20 (53 miles).
• Location: N37° 49.723' W85° 15.407'
• From the Beech Fork Covered Bridge, continue south on SR 458 approximately 2.5 miles to SR 55. Travel north (turn right) on SR 55 approximately 6.3 miles to the Bluegrass Parkway and continue your journey. You are approximately 1:14 (56 miles) from Louisville, 1:09 (58 miles) from Lexington, 1:10 (62 miles) from Georgetown, and 2:23 (131 miles) from Cincinnati.
