Funeral arrangements for Phil Coombs

LOUISVILLE Philip Wentworth Coombs, 71, of Louisville, KY, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017. Coombs was retired from the City of Louisville where he helped start up Louisville EMS.

Coombs graduated from the University of Louisville and served in the U.S. Army. He also worked for Metro Public Works, Louisville Corrections, and the Kentucky Hospital Association. He also volunteered on the Board for the Altenheim. He was fiercely devoted to his family and friends. He loved traveling and was a passionate race horse owner and enthusiast.

Coombs was born in Darby, PA, November 26, 1945, to the late Joseph W.. Coombs and the late Elizabeth Sengel Coombs. He is also preceded in death by his sister Carolyn J. Coombs and brother Richard C. Coombs. He is survived by brother Keith D. Coombs (Vicki) and sisters Susan Coombs and Kathy Coombs Dunning (Mose). He is also survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathryn Hill Coombs, daughters Deborah M. Coombs (Jean Marquis), Nicole Coombs Cockerham (Jeff), Andrea Coombs Ross (Dave), son Kevin W. Coombs and grandchildren Tyler Cockerham, Baylie Cockerham, Gabriel Ross, and Keegan Ross.

A Celebration of Life and Love will be held at Immanuel United Church of Christ (UCC), 2300 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, KY, on Friday, October 13, 2017, from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p..m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to UNICEF Puerto Rico Relief, the Scholar House of Louisville, KY, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
