Heroin turning up more in Kentucky

ASHLAND — Don't forget your Narcan.

The Associated Press reports that law enforcement authorities in the Ashland area are seeing heroin turning up more often in their investigations.

An undercover drug enforcement detective with the Kentucky State Police Ashland Post said the KSP has three open investigations involving heroin sales in Boyd County and several others are pending.

"We have not been flooded with cases, but they have increased since 1998," said Tom Morrow, Laboratory Supervisor.

One of the two types of heroin the lab has encountered in its six submissions this year is called "Black Tar." Black Tar is very potent and has a 90 percent purity level, Morrow said.
