Kentucky AAMS amends bylaws

OWENSBORO — The Kentucky Chapter of the Association of Air Medical Services has approved changes to their bylaws.

Their membership met last night in Owensboro at the Kentucky EMS Conference.

None of the changes were major and were mostly done to clarify the existing bylaws or make them closer to their national association guidelines.

The changes include:

  • a provision creating honorary members (to be consistent with national bylaws);
  • clarification of membership record date;
  • changing the time meeting notifications can be sent from 50 to 60 days before the meeting (meeting notifications are sent with the minutes of the last meeting, and this provision will allow minutes to be distributed earlier);
  • allowing members to vote for officers by absentee ballot;
  • addition of an indemnification clause;
  • making a budget optional, rather than required; and
  • making parliamentary authority optional, rather than required.

Association secretary Rick McKinstry said the changes were made to "Clear up language and try to make it simpler and clearer."

The changes in the bylaws were unanimously approved by a vote of the membership. They must now be sent to the association's national office for their approval before they can be enacted.

In other business, it was announced that a subcommittee formed to review and revise the air medical regulations have identified twelve areas for further research and review.

The association also voted to support the Coalition for Safe Highways.
