Pen-based reporting to be demonstrated in Glasgow

By MIKE SWIFT
Barren - Metcalfe County EMS

GLASGOW — The Barren-Metcalfe County Ambulance Service, in cooperation with the T.J. Samson Community Hospital, is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a demonstration of OPEN Inc.'s pen-based EMS patient care report and total EMS information management system, known as SafetyPad, on Monday, September 13th. The demonstration will be conducted from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (Central Time) at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital's Resource Center located in the Central Center Shopping Center on the Happy Valley Road in Glasgow, Kentucky.

The SafetyPAD system is field amendable and is adaptable to several different types of platforms. It has the capability to provide the EMT and/or Paramedic with USER FRIENDLY pen-based computing with real-time data collection, voice and handwriting recognition, voice enabled hands-free data entry, narrative report generation, medical device interface, GPS / mapping, and wireless connectivity. Some of the benefits include accurate, complete and real-time patient care reports, the elimination of paper forms and repetitive entries, the capability for seamless billing interface between field providers and the billing office, quality improvement and regulatory compliance, and the optimization of EMS information management. The software can also be customized for other related applications.

In Kentucky, the SafetyPad system is currently going through the final implementation stages prior to on-line use by Jefferson County EMS. The system is projected to pay for itself through an anticipated increase in revenue realized by the capture of accurate and complete patient care and billing information obtained at the time of the initial patient contact. In addition, another Kentucky EMS provider is currently in the process of purchasing the SafetyPAD system for its operation.

All interested EMS providers, EMTs and Paramedics are invited and encouraged to attend the demonstration and see how the system works. For more information, contact Mike Swift at (270) 651-5122.
