CareFlight recognized for safety and patient care

By JEFF MURPHY
Director, Saint Joseph Hospital Public Relations

LEXINGTON — Saint Joseph Hospital's air medical service, CareFlight, was accredited again last month by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). Developed exclusively by and for air medical and critical care ground services, this national accreditation process focuses on quality of patient care and safety of the transport environment through an in-depth review by the Commission.

CareFlight, a service offering helicopter and fixed wing transport for critically ill and injured patients, voluntarily submitted to this independent appraisal and has been accredited for the second time, after first receiving the distinction in 1995.

Highly sophisticated critical care RN and paramedic teams provide patient care on the aircraft. American Eurocopter EC 135 and BK 117 helicopters and a Conquest 441 fixed wing aircraft are dedicated to patient transports. Aviation services are provided by Rocky Mountain Helicopters of Provo, Utah.
