Collision with ambulance kills woman

SANDGAP — A McKee woman was killed when her pickup hit an ambulance nearly head-on yesterday in Sandgap.

Donna S. Bond, 25, was traveling south on rain-slicked U.S. 421, lost control in a curve, crossed the center line and hit the northbound ambulance.

The Jackson County ambulance, driven by Vernon F. Adkins, 23, of McKee was going to a non-emergency call. Adkins and fellow ambulance employee William W. Thacker of McKee were treated at Berea Hospital and released.
