Wayne County offers only EMT-hybrid course in Kentucky Wayne County Judge/Executive Press Release MONTICELLO — Wayne County Judge/Executive Greg Rankin wishes to inform everyone about a unique learning and possible employment opportunity to local and area residents later this summer. Wayne County’s EMS has been approved to offer an Emergency Medical Technician Hybrid course that is the first of its kind in the state of Kentucky. The course combines in-person instruction with an online component and meets the EMT standards created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Participants will attend class in the Wayne County EMS Training Room on alternating Saturdays for in-person work and all other parts of the course will be conducted on-line. After completing the course and passing exams utilized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, students could be working in the field as early as January of 2011. "We are very excited to have the first program of this kind in the state and it’s another opportunity for someone that may be looking for a job, or just wants a career change. We are offering discounts to Wayne County citizens, but the program is open to anyone in the area. After completing the course and passing the exam, students will be eligible to work for any Emergency Medical Service. We are proud to be able to offer this training locally and provide potential work opportunities that have not always been readily available to Wayne County citizens. Providing new educational opportunities to our residents is a big part of our economic development plans as well," said County Judge-Executive Greg Rankin. Participants must have a high school diploma or equivalency and pass a background check. The course fee, which includes books and materials, is $700 for Wayne County residents and $750 for anyone outside the county. Applications are available at the Wayne County EMS office, located on the Jim Hill Service Road, or online at www.wcems.net "We are very proud of our EMS and the services they provide and this is just another example of Wayne County breaking new ground and moving forward in this field. We are very fortunate to have the quality of care that they provide," said Rankin.
