Change in procedure for UK direct admits

By JAMIE ALCORN
UK Emergency Transport

LEXINGTONContinuing construction at the University of Kentucky Medical Center has necessitated a change in procedure for EMS agencies that are transporting direct admit patients to the hospital.

In addition to all non-emergency department direct admits using the rear hospital entrance, all EMS agencies transporting a direct admit patient to the University of Kentucky Medical Center should contact the UK Emergency Communications Center approximately 20 minutes prior to arrival to obtain their patient’s destination and provide a brief patient report or changes in condition.

Previously EMS agencies stopped in the emergency department to obtain this information.

The UK Emergency Communications Center can be contacted by phone (859) 323-6215 or by VHF radio frequency 155.340 PL 77.0.  The latter should only be used when your EMS agency is aware of the patient destination and needs to provide a brief report or change in condition.

The UK Emergency Communications Center should be made aware of all patient transports to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.  To receive construction impact information on ambulance operations via e-mail, please send your e-mail address to jmalco2@email.uky.edu  Thanks for your continued cooperation during this construction process.
