CJ Systems Aviation Group purchases STATCARE

STATCARE Press Release

PITTSBURGH, Penn.CJ Systems Aviation Group, a major provider of air medical services, expanded its nationwide network by purchasing the STATCARE program in Louisville, Ky.  The acquisition, which was completed on September 12, will strengthen CJ Systems’ commitment to the region and its presence in Kentucky.

“The residents and medical facilities in the Louisville area won’t notice any changes to the STATCARE program,” said Ed Marasco, senior vice president of Air Medical Services at CJ Systems. “We will continue to operate with the high level of service and commitment to excellence that have been the standard for air medical services in the Louisville area.”

CJ Systems has provided the pilots, maintenance staff, and aviation leadership for the program since 1996.  With the purchase of the STATCARE program, CJ Systems will continue to offer these services in addition to providing the medical crews and billing services.  STATCARE's highly trained medical crews will remain under the medical direction of University Hospital, and the current Kosair Children’s Hospital pediatric transport team will continue to provide services under the medical direction of a Kosair Children’s Hospital physician.

“CJ Systems’ expertise in providing air medical services, coupled with STATCARE’s long tradition of renowned care will benefit everyone within the program’s service area,” added Marasco.

As part of the agreement, CJ Systems will add Kosair Children’s Hospital’s Beechcraft King Air 200 airplane to its fleet.  CJ Systems already owned the three helicopters assigned to the STATCARE program.

STATCARE was formed by Louisville Medical Center, a partnership between Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s HealthCare, Norton Healthcare and UofL Health Care, in 1982.  As the region’s cardiac center, pediatric hospital and adult Level I trauma center, respectively, the hospitals saw a huge need for a helicopter air ambulance service that would provide a faster response time for critically ill or injured patients.  STATCARE became the first civilian helicopter air ambulance in Kentucky.  All flight crews consist of a specially trained EMS pilot, flight nurse and flight paramedic.

The contact phone number remains the same.  To request air ambulance services, call (888) 729-9111.
