Truck accident kills volunteer firefighter

WEST VAN LEAR — A West Van Lear volunteer firefighter in Eastern Kentucky died after being hit by a tanker truck at the scene of a blaze.

Charles McKenzie, 75, of West Van Lear, died Wednesday after being pinned under the truck shortly before midnight, state police in Pikeville said.

McKenzie had driven the tanker to the scene and was relaying water to fight a house fire. When he left the truck, it rolled forward and hit him, police said.
