KBEMS Katrina response update: Sept. 7
By KYLE THOMPSON FRANKFORT — The Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services was briefed at the Emergency Operations Center in Frankfort at 11:00 A.M., September 7, 2005 concerning continued relief efforts in Louisiana and Mississippi. At this time, the Louisiana and Mississippi operations centers have informed our executive staffs that they have all of the Emergency Medical personnel that their states and territories require. Furthermore, neither state has submitted a second EMAC request for Emergency Medical personnel or resources. However, both states and FEMA have urged the Commonwealth to continue to amass resources and volunteers for possible deployment at a later date. The Red Cross and Kentucky Homeland Security also have requested that available resources and personnel be prepared for relief efforts within the boundaries of Kentucky if a large number of displaced individuals are relocated to the Bluegrass/ Ohio River Valley area. Your assistance and patience is greatly appreciated during this very difficult time in American history. KBEMS and its Executive Director, Brian Bishop, cannot express in words the gratitude and pride that this agency has for the dedicated volunteers who assisted in the relief efforts in Louisiana. In addition, a special thank-you is deserved for those individuals who have remained prepared to participate in any relief efforts, but were not initially utilized. Your support and time are highly valued.
