PHI Air Medical develops hospital helipad in Jackson PHI Air Medical of Kentucky Press Release JACKSON — On June 20, 2005, construction began on a helicopter landing pad at Kentucky River Medical Center. Previously, when a patient needed air transport, helicopters would land in a field next to the hospital. A permanent structure will improve safety for all air medical services in the state and will allow for the utilization of fewer hospital and community resources, which are sometimes needed to secure a landing zone. Both KRMC and PHI as a part of their missions continue to look for new and better ways to serve the needs of the community. The placement of a permanent landing site not only serves to benefit the patients of the hospital but local Emergency Medical and Police services as well. PHI Air Medical Service serves all of Kentucky as well as many surrounding states. Each aircraft is supported by a pilot, critical care nurse, and a critical care paramedic with extensive experience and training in their profession prior to becoming flight personnel for PHI. The flight team also includes emergency medical specialists who are available for patient consultations and crew direction 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. “We are extremely happy to have such a landing pad established at our facility. It will enable patients requiring air transfer to be transported in a safe manner for the patient and the helicopter crew. It will be a big asset to our emergency services,” said O. David Bevins, CEO of Kentucky River Medical Center.
