Rep. Rodgers honored by American Ambulance Association

By MICHAEL SWIFT
President, Kentucky Ambulance Providers Association

GLASGOW The American Ambulance Association has awarded United States Representative Harold Rogers (KY) the 2003 Legislative Recognition Award for his efforts on behalf of the nation's ambulance providers relating to Homeland Defense issues for first responders.

Congressman Rogers and others played a vital role in amending the Homeland Defense appropriations bill to include EMS agencies.

The initial bill only listed fire and police as eligible agencies for grant funding and excluded public or private EMS agencies that were not part of the fire service or law enforcement.

As president of the Kentucky Ambulance Providers Association, I have been asked to present Congressman Rogers his award on behalf of the AAA.  Hopefully in the very near future, a date, time and place will be named for the award presentation. We have a big job of education to do for our elected officials to make sure that EMS is not left standing on the sidelines again when it comes to Homeland Defense grants.
