All invited to KAPA legislative reception By
JAMES RITCHEY LAWRENCEBURG — The Kentucky Ambulance Providers Association will hold a legislative reception so that members of the EMS community can discuss issues with state legislators in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. Every EMS worker in Kentucky is invited to attend. The reception will be held February 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Kentucky Room at the Holiday Inn in Frankfort. Last year, 73 members of the Kentucky General Assembly attended the KAPA reception, which is an outstanding number for a legislative reception. With EMS funding, the EMS license plate and further expansion of practice issues set for the 2004 session, this would be a great opportunity to set the stage for these issues. KAPA president Mike Swift has also issued a call for EMS folks to come to Frankfort on Wednesday, February 19, at 10:00 a.m. to discuss the impact of the recent Medicaid cuts on EMS providers. The group will meet in the Capitol Annex cafeteria at 10:00 for a short informational session and then go out and meet with their respective legislators. We hope to have the group finished by 1:00. This is a critical meeting. More Medicaid cuts are forthcoming and the impact is going to be severe.
