Jewish Hospital Medical Center East opens in Louisville

Jewish Hospital Medical Center East Press Release

LOUISVILLE — In an effort to assist in meeting the emergency medical needs of the community, Jewish Hospital Medical Center East (JHMCE) is establishing emergency services as required by its Ambulatory Care Center License. The facility is located at 3920 Dutchmans Lane in Louisville.

JHMCE will be open 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Physicians providing emergency medical services will be board-certified/board-eligible in Emergency Medicine.

JHMCE will evaluate, diagnose, treat, stabilize, discharge and/or transfer any emergency. We anticipate that most of the emergency services provided by JHMCE will be classified as Level 1 through Level 3 emergencies as defined by Medicare CPT coding. JHMCE will be staffed to treat level 4 emergencies and will be able to stabilize and appropriately transfer level 5 emergencies. A good rule of thumb for the appropriateness of patient is to ask yourself, might this person need inpatient admission or immediate surgery/cath lab. Some examples of patients appropriate for JHMCE include:

  • Minor trauma -- simple lacerations, contusions, sprains/strains, simple fractures, basic foreign bodies.
  • Headache/Migraine
  • Minor eye injuries, conjunctivitis
  • Fever, colds, influenza, sore throat, earaches
  • Vomiting/Diarrhea, mild dehydration
  • Cough, Mild Asthma Attack -- wheezing, rhonchi without distress

The center will have linkages through written agreements with providers of other levels of care, which may be medically indicated to supplement the services available at the center. Linkages will include acute care hospitals and emergency medical transportation services.

JHMCE will also provide services for occupational medicine injury treatment program with a specific focus on after-hours occupational medicine.
