Shelby County EMT resuscitated by 'the system' By
TOMMY SAMPSON SHELBYVILLE — Shelby County EMS EMT Jack Samples, 44, suffered cardiac arrest last Friday at his home in the Bagdad area. Samples, a 25-year employee of Shelby County EMS, is also the Shelby County Emergency Management Director. Family members started CPR while his 10-year old daughter Kelly dialed 9-1-1. Shelby County EMS and the Bagdad Volunteer Fire Department first responders responded. Samples had helped work on obtaining the AED that the first responders arrived with. The Bagdad first responders administered a shock with the AED and EMS transported to Jewish Hospital Shelbyville, where Samples arrived pulseless. The emergency department doctors and staff worked for 30-minutes and restored a strong pulse. Samples was then transferred to Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Samples is currently unconscious and in critical condition. We at Shelby County EMS have high hopes he will survive. He is in the room 475. Please pray for him and his family.
