MINDI THOMPSON LOUISA — A public meeting has been scheduled by the Lawrence County Fiscal Court to seek input from residents about the future of the county’s only ambulance service. The meeting will be held July 15 at 10 a.m. in the second floor courtroom. Fiscal court members are asking residents to give their opinions on what should happen to LifeStar Ambulance Service. Larry Leedy currently owns the service but has been unable to be active in its operations because of health problems. At the May fiscal court meeting, his son, William Leedy, addressed the court regarding the ambulance service’s future. “We received some criticism when we took over the ambulance service because we didn’t approach the county about it first,” Leedy said last month. He suggested then that the court take public comments on what to do with the ambulance service if his father cannot continue to operate it. During the May meeting, fiscal court members discussed the possibility of the county taking over the service. Judge-Executive David Compton raised the issue that if the county took over the service, a new tax would have to be instituted to cover the cost of operations.
