KBEMS publishes proposed fee increases

LOUISVILLE — The Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services has published a draft document that shows their proposal to increase the fees charged for certification, licensure, and other administrative tasks.

One new item is to no recertification or relicensure fee will be charged to any certified or licensed individual "who provides voluntary services exclusively for volunteer licensed ambulance services, certified volunteer fire departments, as defined by KRS 75.400(5), or general rescue squads, as defined by KRS 39F.010(1)."

The proposed fees are:

  • Written Examination Fee shall be Sixty ($60.00) dollars, which includes the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians’ fee. 
  • Emergency Medical Services Training/Testing Agency:
    • Emergency Medical Services Training and Education Institution Application shall be one hundred ($100.00) dollars.
    • Emergency Medical Services Training and Education Institution Application 5 year review shall be one hundred ($100.00) dollars. 
  • Issuance of Certificates/Licenses, including reentry and reciprocity:
    • Application fee shall be ten ($10.00) dollars.
    • First Responder Certification shall be thirteen ($13.00) dollars.
    • Emergency Medical Technician Certification shall be forty ($40.00) dollars. 
    • Paramedic Licensure shall be eighty-five ($85.00) dollars.
    • Emergency Medical Technician Instructor shall be seventy-five ($75.00) dollars.
    • Paramedic Course Coordinator shall be seventy-five ($75.00) dollars.
    • Emergency Medical Technician Instructor Trainer shall be one hundred ($100.00) dollars.
  • Recertification/Relicensure:
    • First Responder Recertification shall be thirteen ($13.00) dollars.
    • Emergency Medical Techician– Recertification shall be thirty ($30.00) dollars.
    • Paramedic Relicensure shall be seventy-five ($75.00) dollars.
    • Emergency Medical Technician Instructor Recertification shall be sixty ($60.00) dollars.
    • Paramedic Course Coordinator Recertification shall be sixty ($60.00) dollars. 
    • Emergency Medical Technician Instructor Trainer shall be eighty-five ($85.00) dollars.
  • Ambulance Service Licensing and Relicensing:
    • Initial Pre-license fee, to establish compliance with 202 KAR 7:_____ shall be one thousand, five hundred ($1500.00) dollars.
    • Transfer of License shall be two hundred, fifty ($250.00) dollars. 
    • Each Additional Unit for Inspection shall be twenty-five ($25.00) dollars. 
    • Relicensure fee (up to and including inspection of 4 licensed units) shall be one hundred ($100.00) dollars. 
    • Volunteer Service Relicense fee shall be twenty ($20.00) dollars. 
    • Relicensure inspection due to major deficiency shall be one hundred ($100.00) dollars. 
    • Addition of units to existing license shall be fifty ($50.00) dollars per unit. 
  • Administrative Fees:
    • Late fee shall be twenty-fifty ($25.00) dollars for any recertification or relicensure applicant or any official document required to be received by the KBEMS office, which is postmarked after the due date. 
    • Duplicate Card, Certification, or License fee for each shall be twenty-five ($25.00) dollars.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) medical first-response providers:
    • Initial license fee to establish compliance with 202 KAR 7:595 shall be two hundred fifty ($250.00) dollars.
    • Relicensure inspection up to four (4) vehicles shall be one hundred ($100.00) dollars.
    • Each additional unit for inspection shall be twenty-five ($25.00) dollars.
