Transportation Cabinet seeks support for primary seatbelt law Submitted by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet FRANKFORT — Last week the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services voted unanimously to support House Bill 68, the primary seatbelt legislation for the 2002 session. In other states, when a secondary seatbelt law became a primary law, seatbelt usage rose more that 15%. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates this would prevent 73 deaths and more than 1,400 injuries every year in Kentucky. Working in the EMS field, you are fully aware of the lives that could have been saved, and the injuries that could have been prevented, if someone had been wearing their seatbelt. This is where we need your help. H.B. 68 will be heard in committee this Thursday, February 14, 2002. If it passes out of the committee, it will then be heard on the House floor. Please have your family and co-workers, along with yourself, call 800-372-7181 today and leave a message for the Representative and Senator from your area to support H.B. 68 and save lives. Every phone call is important!
