WASHINGTON, D.C. — Kentucky's delegation to U.S. Congress was able to win $2.3 million of the federal budget for EMS-related projects back in the Commonwealth.

These projects include:

  • $1.5 million to the University of Louisville's Center for the Deterrence of Biowarfare and Bioterrorism to develop a plan for integrating public health, law enforcement and other services for a response to a biological attack. (McConnell)
  • $500,000 for Kentucky Emergency Medical Services Academy at Western Kentucky University, to expand its education and training programs aimed at improving emergency medical services in rural areas. (McConnell)
  • $190,000 for repairs and renovation of Simpson County's Emergency Operations Center. (Whitfield, Bunning)
  • $150,000 for a new hangar and landing pad for air ambulance service at Glasgow Airport. (Lewis)
  • $105,000 to upgrade Allen County's 911 system (Whitfield, Bunning)

The $2.3 million in budget awards is about two-tenths of a percent of the $958 million total awarded for all Kentucky projects and programs.
