CMS updates zip code file

POWAY, California — CMS has announced that an updated zip code file has been released to the Carriers and Intermediaries. The zip code file matches zip codes to localities and whether zip code qualifies for the rural mileage rate that will be implemented with the new fee schedule.

To get a copy of this file you must contact your Carrier or Intermediary. It is not provided directly by CMS.

Tell your carrier that the information can be found in Program Memorandum AB-01-119. The text follows.

The newest version of the zip code file is now available for contractor downloading for use in processing ambulance claims and in jurisdictional pricing. The file name is: MUOO.@AAA2390.ZIP.LOCALITY. This file is the update of the quarterly file.

The release number for this file is 20014,release 4 of 2001.

To process claims with new zip codes that are not included in this file, refer to Program Memorandum (PM)AB-00-88.

The effective date for this PM is October 1,2001.

The implementation date for this PM is October 1,2001.
