Shigella outbreak spreading to Northern Kentucky

CINCINNATI, Ohio — MSNBC reports that shigella cases are already 30 times higher in Cincinnati than last year and spreading to Northern Kentucky.

There have been 574 cases of shigella reported in Cincinnati, and 36 cases have been reported in Northern Kentucky.

Most cases have involved diaper-wearing toddlers who are spreading the illness in day-care settings and among their families. Few, if any, cases have been linked to eating contaminated food or swimming in contaminated water.
