KELLY SUDZINA MOUNT OLIVET — Robertson County Fiscal Court approved the leasing of the county’s ambulance service to Pro-Care Emergency Medical Services Inc. in a special meeting Monday. Judge-Executive Bradley Gifford signed the contract, which will be renewable on an annual basis. Jim Conley will assume management of the ambulance service effective July 1. “The service has kind of been running in the red and hopefully he can take it and make some money off it,” Gifford said of Conley. “It should be a plus on both sides.” Conley seems confident that he will be able to increase the amount of EMS runs to the point the service can support itself. He said although the ambulance service will be run like a business and must make some profit, the EMS will primarily provide a community service. Since the life squad has been utilizing its new ambulance, runs have already increased, Conley said. However, in an earlier fiscal court meeting, Conley estimated that at the squad’s current base rate the number of runs made per year must nearly double before the service can support itself.
