LIBERTY —
The sole survivor of Tuesday's triple
fatal ambulance crash lost a brother in a quadruple fatal ambulance crash in
1992. EMT Charlie Vanderpool is in serious condition at UK Hospital.
His fiancee, 26-year-old Sandy Shepherd, was killed in the crash. Shepherd
was an emergency medical technician. Her patient, 83-year-old
Nell Crigger, was also killed.
Police say the ambulance was struck by a truck driven by 29-year old Brian
Gilvin of Mount Sterling. Gilvin was also killed in the crash.
In 1992, Vanderpool's brother Johnnie died when the ambulance he was working
in was hit by a coal truck head-on in Johnson County. Three
others were killed in that crash. Both Johnnie and Charlie were
employees of G&B Ambulance Service.
