Rural/Metro wins unanimous vote to renew exclusive 911 contract in Jeffersontown

Rural/Metro Press Release

JEFFERSONTOWN — Rural/Metro Ambulance won unanimous approval this week from the City of Jeffersontown -- a community near Louisville -- for a new, two-year contract to provide exclusive 911 ambulance transportation services in the city.

Rural/Metro has been the designated 911 provider in Jeffersontown since 1999. The new contract, which was won in a competitive bidding process, takes effect March 1, 2001.

John Karolzak, Regional Division General Manager, said, "We are very pleased to continue to provide services to the citizens of Jeffersontown and value our presence in the community. During the past two years, Rural/Metro has worked diligently to deliver the highest levels of patient care and to establish ourselves as respected members of the EMS community. We are gratified by the City's unanimous vote of confidence."

Rural/Metro shares close ties with other public safety agencies in Jeffersontown. Sharon Perkins, Area Manager for Louisville and the surrounding communities, said, "We work very closely with the Jeffersontown Fire and Police Departments to enhance our collective abilities to respond to emergencies in our community."

For example, Rural/Metro collaborates with the Fire Department to teach a variety of health and safety training and certification courses. The Company also conducts training sessions with the Jeffersontown Police Department. "Because of our joint training efforts, our employees are knowledgeable about their procedures and can assist in ways that never would have been possible without the training. We view our responsibility to the community as a public safety partnership, with Rural/Metro providing a key component of the equation."

The City of Jeffersontown occupies approximately 32 square miles and is bordered by the City of Louisville. Rural/Metro Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians respond to an average of 200 emergency calls within the city each month and provide non-emergency ambulance services to a range of healthcare facilities within Jeffersontown and Louisville.

Rural/Metro also hosts a variety of community health and safety services, including blood pressure checks, standby coverage for public events, outreach programs in local schools, and community CPR training. Perkins added, "It's vital that Rural/Metro become a visible and involved community participant. By giving back to the community this way, we earn even greater trust and respect."
