A model notice and consent as required under the final privacy rules issued by HHS pursuant to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA) can be found for ambulance services on the news page of 911 Billing Services and Consultant, Inc.

Regulatory glitch delays HIPAA privacy regulations

An apparent paperwork lapse at the end of the Clinton administration has delayed until mid-April the Feb. 26 effective date of the privacy regulations issued under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. Details of the delay were not immediately available, but officials apparently failed to transmit the final regulation to Capitol Hill when it was issued late in December. AHA sources said this delay shouldn't be confused with reopening the rules, as the association has requested. However, the delay will give AHA more time to make its case for reopening certain parts of the rule, they said.
