LOUISVILLE — Two Kentucky Medicare Part B providers have been approved for reimbursement advances by the Health Care Financing Administration.

Rural-Metro Ambulance in Louisville and LifeCare in Jackson were approved Wednesday, according to Mike Swift, president-elect of the Kentucky Ambulance Providers Association.

According to Swift, other Part B providers are still under consideration for the reimbursement advances. And a Part A provider is being considered for an accelerated payment. [See related article.]

Eligibility for a reimbursement advance is based upon the number of claims currently in appeals as apposed to the number of claims submitted for appeal last year. Also considered is the impact these appeals are having on the financial condition of the provider.

"This news represents a significant historical moment for KAPA and Kentucky's providers as this is reportedly the first time that the Chicago Regional Office of HCFA has ever authorized a reimbursement advance for a Part B provider, and this is the first time that a Kentucky Part B provider has ever been approved and will receive a reimbursement advance," Swift said.

"We have many people to people to thank for this development, but the crisis is far from being over. We need everyone's continued support and assistance, Swift said.
