KBEMS advertises for medical advisor position Provided by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services Medical Advisor The Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services is currently accepting applications for the position of Medical Advisor to the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. This position will be filled using a personal service contract. General Duties: As specified by House Bill 405, enacted by the 2000 Kentucky General Assembly, the Medical Advisor provides medical advice to the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services and its staff. Further, under the direction of the Board, the Board’s Chairman, and the Board’s Executive Director, work with matters pertaining to the delivery of emergency medical services to the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky; reviewing and recommending approval of local advanced life support protocols; rendering advice and assistance with regard to medical issues; reviewing complaints against individuals and organizations which relate to the delivery of emergency medical care and making determinations with regard thereto; and presenting evidence in such matters before the board or before a court of competent jurisdiction; working with the various educational committees of the board in the development of curricula for paramedics, emergency medical technicians, emergency medical technicians first responders, and other organizations regulated by the board; and performing such other duties as may be assigned by the board, the board’s chairman, or by the board’s executive director. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should possess the degree of Doctor of Medicine, be licensed to practice medicine in Kentucky; be currently board certified in emergency medicine; be currently practicing in the field of emergency medicine; have practiced in the field of emergency medicine for a minimum of five years prior to employment, have served or currently be serving as medical director of an advanced life support ambulance service in Kentucky for a minimum of three years. Contract Details: The personal service contract will be negotiated with the successful applicant, subject to all statutes, administrative regulations, and procedures (including but not limited to limits on hourly compensation and total compensation).
