KBEMS advertises for general counsel position Provided by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services General Counsel The Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services is currently accepting applications for the position of General Counsel to the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. This position will be filled using a personal service contract. General Duties: Renders legal advice and assistance with regard to legal, medical-legal, administrative law, tort, contract, litigation, budget, personnel, and other such issues; reviews complaints against individuals and organizations which relate to emergency medical care and making determinations with regards thereto, and presenting evidence in such matters before the board or before a court of competent jurisdiction; assists with the drafting and implementation of statutes, administrative regulations, contracts, legal documents, and federal grants; attending meetings of the board, working with and providing legal advice and review to the board members, the board staff, and committees of the board in any matter under the jurisdiction of the board. Preferred Qualifications: Applicants should possess the degree of Bachelor of Law or Juris Doctor, be licensed to practice law in Kentucky, be admitted to practice before the federal district courts in Kentucky and the U. S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, have practiced law for five years preceding employment by the board, have experience in the drafting of statutes and administrative regulations; have knowledge of the administrative hearings process under KRS Chapter 13B and, have a general knowledge of the state budget process. Additionally, applicants should be experienced in the operations of local emergency medical service systems, public policy, local and state government operations, litigation, and have a good working knowledge of education program delivery. Actual experience in the administrative hearings process will be given added consideration. Contract Details: The personal service contract will be negotiated with the successful applicant, subject to all statutes, administrative regulations, and procedures (including but not limited to limits on hourly compensation and total compensation).
