Funeral arrangements for Bob 'Mad Dog' Hamilton

By ROCKEY JOHNSON
Jefferson County EMS, Captain

LOUISVILLE — Paramedic Bob "Mad Dog" Hamilton passed away early this morning.

The arrangements are as follows:

Visitation will take place in the Auditorium of Saint Xavier High School from 2 PM till 9 PM on Tuesday, November 21st.

The funeral is scheduled for 10 AM on Wednesday, November 22nd, in the Gymnasium of Saint Xavier High School.

Saint Xavier high School is located on Popular Level Road north (toward Louisville) of I-264 (Watterson Expressway).

Burial will take place at the Franklin Crossroads Cemetery in Hardin County.

Take I-65 south to Elizabethtown. Take the first exit and turn right onto Highway 62. Go through town and toward Leitchfield. Turn right onto Highway 86. Go through Cecilia, KY and turn right at the intersection that has a yellow caution light. The cemetery is on the right.

William Hamilton was known throughout Kentucky and Indiana during his paramedic career as Bob "Mad Dog" Hamilton. He was one of the first two Paramedics certified in Jefferson County and worked as a Police Officer Paramedic for Jefferson Police EMS under the Medical Control of Doctor Thomas.

He contributed greatly to JCPD-EMS transitioning from "stretcher cars" to the modern ambulance. When the Jefferson County Police began to switch to "civilian" Paramedics and the Police Officer EMTs and Paramedics were told to transfer to other sections of JCPD, Mad Dog was one of the last to go because he loved EMS so well. When he was off duty and we became busy or a unit called for a backup, Mad Dog would go on the air from his home and say "Radio, SQ 43 is 10-8. Where do you need me to respond?"

He was one of the charter members of the Jefferson County Police HAZ-MAT Team that has evolved into the Jefferson County EMS Disaster Response Team (DRT) and the Technical Rescue Unit (TRU).

After he departed from what is now Jefferson County EMS and the Jefferson County Police Department, he became a Sports Trainer at Saint Xavier High School. The program went through a major aspect of development after he became involved and now is considered one of the best sports trainer programs in the United States located in a high school.

Bob Hamilton was Marine Corp combat veteran.

The Jefferson County EMS Command Staff and Employees offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of Paramedic William "Mad Dog" Hamilton.
