EMS conference proclaimed a success By
JOHN HULTGREN OWENSBORO The 2000 Kentucky EMS Conference and Expo comes to a close today, and almost everyone who attended the week-long event seems to be leaving extremely satisfied. "The evaluations reflect that this was the best year ever. We had many compliments on the extremely interesting subjects," said Lee Brown, the conference education coordinator and director of the Kentucky EMS Academy. This years conference offered 43 classes in the areas of management, education, and medical tracks. "This years attendance is probably the second best the conference has enjoyed during its ten-year run," said Jim Butler, the conference chairman and assistant chief of Florence Fire & EMS. "We had 444 people attend this year. We came extremely close to our best year, which was 1995 in Louisville, when we had a record 453 people attend." "We did set a record for vendors," said Mark Harrison, conference vendor coordinator and EMS Director for Marshall County EMS. "We had 33 vendors set up in the exhibit hall." The EMS Awards Banquet, a barbecue with numerous state legislators, and the national farm safety kickoff were also held in conjunction with the conference. "I'm very pleased that we were able to bring multiple agencies together for the good of EMS in the state of Kentucky," Butler said. "Our plans for next year are to get more people involved and make this the premiere conference in the state." "Through the help of the whole KAPA board and membership, we increased our numbers beyond our greatest expectations," Butler said. Next year's conference has been scheduled for Sept. 10 through 16 at the Executive Inn in Owensboro. More information can be found on the conference's Internet site: www.hultgren.org/conference. This site will be updated throughout the year as plans are finalized.
