Ambulance fee schedule to be announced Tuesday

The American Ambulance Association reported that the proposed rule for the new Medicare ambulance fee schedule is scheduled for publication in the Federal Register on Tuesday, September 12, and that comments will be accepted by HCFA until November 13, 2000.

The AAA received an advance copy of the rule and reported the following:

According to the AAA, the unadjusted base rate (subject to geographic cost of living adjustments) for the levels of service are as follows:

  • BLS: $157.52 
  • BLS-Emergency: $252.03 
  • ALS 1: $189.02 
  • ALS 1-Emergency: $299.29 
  • ALS 2: $433.18 
  • Specialty Care Transport: $511.94 
  • Paramedic Intercept: $275.65 
  • Mileage: $5.00 
  • Mileage (rural miles): $7.50
