I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and concern for my family
and my daughter.
Tiffanys tumor is called Brain Stem Glioma. There are approximately 150-200 cases of this tumor found each year in children. This
particular tumor is located on the center lower portion of the inside of the
pons, which makes it inoperable. Average long term survival ranges between
0-20%, depending on the location. Tiffany's rate is approximately 4%. Survival
time ranges from 3 - 15 months -- some may be longer or shorter.
We are
currently undertaking in a research program through Chicago Children's
Hospital, under the direction of Dr. Stewart Goldman. It consists of
radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and a drug called Thalidomide. He is hoping
to extend survival statistics.
The only symptoms Tiffany currently has are:
crossed eyes, loss of muscle tone and mobility on her right upper and lower
side, and stroke-like "draw effects" to the left side of her face.
My wife and I are currently trying to find ways to make this type of
cancer more well known to people, to help people like Dr. Goldman in his
research.
Again, we cannot begin to express our thanks for everyone's
prayers and
help. As a member of Ledbetter Fire, Lyon County EMS, and the Livingston County
Jail, I have
assisted many others, but I never thought it would come around to my family.
AGAIN...THANK-YOU TO ALL
