KEMTIA is an active corporation By
JOHN HULTGREN LOUISVILLE The Kentucky EMT Instructors Association, Inc. is an active Kentucky corporation. Yesterday the Kentucky EMS Connection reported that KEMTIA was dissolved by the Kentucky Secretary of State in 1987 for failing to file an annual report. (See related article) According to Phil Taylor, past president of KEMTIA, the corporation was dissolved in 1987 during a "mix-up" that occurred during the transition of executive secretary positions. Taylor discovered in 1998 that the corporation had been dissolved and took the necessary steps to correct the problem. Apparently the association was re-registered as a new corporation under a slightly different name, and there was no information in the Secretary of State office's computer file that linked the two names together. The "Ky. EMT Instructors Association, Inc." is currently listed in the Secretary of State's office as "active." However, their last annual report was made June 30, 1999 and they are in "bad" standing. An attempt to contact the current president, Mark Bailey, this morning was unsuccessful. It is assumed that Bailey was unaware of these events, which occurred prior to his election as president, when contacted by the Kentucky EMS Connection last week. KEMTIA holds a state contract to conduct EMT testing for the EMS Branch.
