Published May 25 in the Crittenden Press Livingston must decide fate of ambulance management Crittenden Press SMITHLAND Livingston County Fiscal Court members were introduced last Thursday to a feasibility study from Mercy Regional Emergency Medical Service to manage the county's ambulance service on a long term basis. Though no action or discussion took place on the matter, Judge-Executive Joe Ward and magistrates agreed to review the feasibility for a week before taking action. The fiscal court will meet to discuss the matter today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m., at the courthouse. Earlier this year, Mercy was awarded a six-month contract by the county to manage the ambulance service. During that time period, Mercy was to prepare a cost-estimate for operating the service for a year. Last month, Mercy roughly projected an approximate $600,000 annual price tag to continue operating the service at its current level of improvement. The fiscal court must decide the fate of the ambulance service management by mid-July, when the contract with Mercy expires.
