HENDERSON Three people were treated for minor injuries Wednesday morning after a car collided with an ambulance on Kentucky 351 just west of Zion. The accident occurred around 9 a.m. as the ambulance, traveling eastbound on Kentucky 351, was responding to a call with its lights and siren on, according to reports from the Henderson County Sheriff's Office. The driver of the ambulance, 42-year-old Robert Bumgardner, 7158 Old Corydon Road, told authorities the ambulance topped a hill on Kentucky 351 and he saw a vehicle in the westbound lane that was apparently out of control and fishtailing, Deputy Chris Keller said. Bumgardner said he slowed down and tried to avoid the vehicle, but the car veered into the path of the ambulance and the two collided, Keller said. The driver of the car, Myles S. Bennett, 42, 6077 Larue Road, told authorities that he was traveling westbound on Kentucky 351 when a car in front of him stopped abruptly, Keller said. Bennett hit his brakes to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of him and his car began fishtailing, according to reports. When Bennett let off the brakes to straighten the car, his vehicle traveled into the eastbound lane and collided with the ambulance, Keller said. The ambulance, in attempting to avoid the vehicle, was already partially off of the road, and the impact of the accident caused it to turn over on its top, reports said. Bumgardner and Steve Young, 54, 1333 Glenshield Way, the other emergency medical technician in the ambulance, were transported to Methodist Hospital where they were treated and released. Bennett was also treated and released from the hospital.
