I am saddened to hear of Tom's death. I was a medic/EMT assigned to the Ambulance Service at BACH/Ft. Campbell from 1992-1995, and have had some contact sence. I knew Tom faily well and remember his laughter and the way he always went to bat for the underdog as a Federal Employees Union represnitive. I never knew anyone from the post General to a lowly E-1 who wanted to be on the other side of the table in that situation. I knew he dedicated a life time of caring from the days when FCEMS was in the old hospital (in the record books as the worlds longest hallways) on the old Caddy ambulances to the latest GSA units. I remember him telling me laughing how many years ago he and some construction workers made a backbord on scene for a spinal injured pt who fell several stories (this was before backbords were mandatory). And I remember how he comforted my absolutely best friend Cyndi (also an EMT) when she was stressing out being 8 months preg. and working her tail off. He was a good man, often at odds with the establishment. I myself was often angry when his crusading sometimes held up my personal goals, but I will miss him and I know Ft. Campbell will not be the same. Cole formerly Med 10 of FCEMS

To the Long Family, You have my sincerest condolences. I knew Tom pretty well, and I will miss him. I worked with Him many many times over the past year and half. Many times he has helped me get adjusted to my new life in the EMS environment. His wisdom, knowledge, and experiences have helped me tremendously. I believe that he has helped me become a better EMT-B as a result of many conversations, feedback, and assistance he has given me. He will always remain in my heart and mind for being a dear friend to me and mentor. I hope that one day what he has taught me will shine as a testimony to what kind of person he has been to so many of us and those he helped in the past, and those he will help through those of us he mentored in the Field of EMS. Best wishes to all who knew and loved Tom.

I have known Tom for over eight years, ever since I came to work at Ft. Campbell. Tom was not only a co-worker but a friend. I probably worked with Tom more than any other one person on the crew.He helped hone my skills in EMS and taught me a few of the old tricks you don't learn in school. Theresa and all your children, you are in my prayers and have my most heartfelt sympathies. Tom, you are not gone, you will live on in our hearts and minds, and in all those you have touched.

To the family of Tom Long, my sincerest condolences. I Knew Tom when I worked at Ft. Campbell EMS in 1988 He was a good guy who had the tenacity of a Pit bull when it came to the rights of any one that was being treated unfairly. I remember Tom liked to laugh and have fun and made the rest of us do the same dissipate the demands of the job. I remember that Tom also was not reluctant to take a run, that showed his dedication to duty. I know that the rest of the guys will remember his willingness to serve not only the patient but the staff as well. Tom will be missed. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation John 5:28, 29. The Life-giver will call up His purchased possession in the first resurrection, and until that triumphant hour, when the last trump shall sound and the vast army shall come forth to eternal victory, every sleeping saint will be kept in safety and will be guarded as a precious jewel, who is known to God by name.

I am so sad to hear of this loss of such a fine person. I have not seen Tom in quite a while but I have remembered him fondly and will continue to. I had the honor of working with him and will remember his teasing and joking laugh. I wish I could have told him how my life is going since he is the one who gave me much advice prior to my career making decision. Thank you, Tom.
