The volunteer understands and supports the purpose, structure, and policies of the institution or organization and the related volunteer group. He offers the use of his or her special skills or experience. The emergency medical technician is this type of volunteer.

John Compton of Hager Hill, Kentucky was an emergency medical technician for P&B Ambulance Service. He died on January 26, 1994, of an apparent heart attack while on duty driving the ambulance.

John Compton, 57, is survived by his wife Verda Compton.
